From The White Hall Register February 9,1934 WILLIAM GIDEON BARNETT, son of JOHN and HESTER STODDARD-BARNETT was bom near Athensville, Greene Co, Illinois on March 4, 1844 and died at home in White Hall on February 3, had he lived until March 4, he would have been 90 years of age. Ms entire life with exception of the Civil War period, was spent in this vicinity. February 16, 1875 married to MISS ELNICE STINNETT, who with six children survive: MRS. MINNIE STEWART, MRS. DAISY SHOPTAW, WILLIAM F. BARNETT, MRS. ELSIE SMITH, MRS. IVA RIVES AND MRS. LULA LEE. While in the Civil War he served in Co. B. of 5th Kansas Cav. Served throughout the duration of the conflict having enlisted in 1861 and discharged in 1865. Ms rich experience with his comrades in arms, included a period of imprisonment in Confederate prison at Little Rock, Arkansas, Funeral at Christian Church, burial in White Hall Cemetery.
